1st Peter Sermon Series
1 Peter is a book of the Bible written by (obviously), Peter! Simon Peter, the man who:
- Was a simple fisherman
- Was called “Satan” by Jesus
- Who turned his back on Jesus not once, not twice, but three times
- Who almost drowned for having so little faith
- Had his name changed from Simon to Peter by Jesus
- Was one of the 3 people Jesus spent the most time with
- Was chosen by Jesus to be one of his 12 Apostles
- Was the man Jesus claimed to build His church on
- Walked on water
- Gave the first sermon after Jesus was gone
Peter is a blue-collar kind of guy—an ordinary, uneducated man. He denied Christ and put his foot in his mouth so often, he should have worn peppermint-flavored socks. (Just kidding, they didn’t wear socks with their sandals. Only elderly, white American men do that.)
Peter took the lessons he learned in life and wrote them down for Christians who were scattered everywhere. We will spend the next six weeks discussing what Peter can teach each of us as individuals, and as the Church as a whole.
Here’s what we’ll talk about
- How to deal with suffering
- How a husband should treat his wife
- How a wife should treat her husband
- How God treats us
- How to handle money, and those who have it or don’t
- How to be Holy and why
- How you were not made for this earth but, rather, made for heaven
- How God can use suffering
